These churchkeys start as a single bar of steel. Using traditional hot-forging techniques, I slit and drift the end of the bar, shoulder it, forge the ring, and then cut the opener from the end of the bar. All of this while the bar is glowing a bright orange color (in the neighborhood of a couple thousand degrees.) After it's cut off the longer bar, I shape the handle, stamp whatever's going into it, and punch the little tongue which forms the operative bit to the tool. A hole is drilled in the end of their three inch handle and a key ring is strung through it. After a bit of cleanup and an oil finish, the bottle opener is ready to be gifted to your friends and loved ones.
